About Majuli University of Culture: Majuli University of Culture is a state government university located in Majuli, Assam, dedicated to research, teaching, and education in the field of humanities and performing arts. The university was established by the Majuli University of Culture Bill, 2017, which was passed by the Government of Assam on 7 September 2017. The university is completely devoted to exploration, tutoring, and education in the field of culture. Recently, the Government of Assam announced that the university will be upgraded to a full-fledged university having humanities, commerce, and science disciplines apart from the cultural and performing arts part catering to the need of the common people of Majuli District and the rest of the state in sync with the New Education Policy. The new name proposed for the university is Majuli University. The university offers various courses in the field of culture, performing arts, and humanities. Admission to the courses is done on the basis of merit. The courses offered by the university are:
- Certificate Course in Missing Language: This is a 6-month full-time course offered on-campus with a total fee of ₹ 4,000.
- MA in Assamese: This is a 2-year full-time course offered on-campus.
- MA in Performing Arts: This is a 2-year full-time course offered on-campus.
- MA in History: This is a 2-year full-time course offered on-campus.
- MA in Heritage Management: This is a 2-year full-time course offered on-campus.
- Ph.D. in Culture and Performing Arts: This is a 3-year full-time course offered on-campus.
The university aims to study and research the multidimensional cultural life of the people of India, more particularly, those of Assam and the North East. The university is the first cultural university in Assam, and the state government has laid the foundation stone for the university at an estimated cost of Rs 300 crore.
